2022. 07. 08. 10:25:00 Veress Máté - HillVital

It is usually more common in women, especially those who have given birth or are over 30-40 years old.

Mild initial complaints are often overlooked, and the small purple veins on the shin are often seen as a cosmetic blemish. Of course, this can get much worse over time. Initial varicose vein disease may only have a few unpleasant symptoms at first. As soon as you get home, it feels great to kick the shoes off your swollen feet.

Then, after a tiring day, the ankle can swell, the skin starts to itch and the foot starts to hurt. Unfortunately, these symptoms become more severe and the swelling becomes a problem not only in the evening, but all day long. Even a minor strain can bring it on. The varicose vein problem can later cause muscle cramps at night and reddish-brown discolouration. The veins become more visible through the skin in the form of bumps.

Varicose veins can develop when the venous and lymphatic systems are unable to remove the blood and large molecules of metabolic waste from the tissues. Healthy veins can only transport blood to the heart if their walls are intact and sufficiently flexible. Any circulatory disorder, damage to the vein wall or even weakness of the venous valves can compromise proper venous circulation.

Varicose veins can present in several different forms. If neglected for a few years, varicose veins can lead to more severe symptoms. The legs can swell up very badly, and there can even be a rash on the skin. In severe cases, in addition to swelling of the feet, discolouration, inflammation and dry and thinned skin can develop. In the final stage, the feet may become ulcerated and there may be non-healing leg ulcers. At this stage, recovery is very difficult and time-consuming, so it must be treated early.

We should also mention phlebitis. Superficial phlebitis is a common complication of varicose veins. The appearance of a long red stripe or several red spots on the lower limb is a sign of this disease. The inflamed veins are easily palpable under the skin and are very sensitive to pressure. This problem may be accompanied by fever and swelling of the ankles.  Fortunately, superficial varicose veins are not a serious condition and in many cases may even go away on their own, but it is not recommended to rely on them. It should always be treated, as in many cases a blood clot can form. Dilated varicose veins are most often inflamed in this way. It can be triggered by a simple blow or by wearing too tight tights. These damage the lining of the vessel and cause the vessel wall to become inflamed. So varicose veins are not a toy, they can be a very serious problem.

But how does varicose vein pain relief work? Varicose vein pain should be relieved as soon as possible. Fortunately, there are a number of exercises and tips that can help reduce the pain. Let's look at some of them now.

Venous vascular therapy, or massage, not only relieves pain but also reduces the risk of complications such as deep vein thrombosis and leg ulcers. It is also about performing special breathing exercises that help blood to flow back into the varicose veins. However, it is important that this is done by a qualified physiotherapist.

Cardio exercise can also help. Cycling, hiking and water sports, especially swimming, can be great. When swimming, however, make sure that you do not swim in warm thermal water.

In addition to regular exercise, a healthy diet is also important. This is to prevent the veins from deteriorating. Being overweight is also a risk to leg health. It's a good idea to cut down on fatty and sugary foods and refined foods can make the problem worse. It is recommended to take as much vitamin C as possible, as it strengthens the blood vessel walls and improves circulation. Also make sure you drink enough fluids every day. It is recommended to drink 2-3 litres of water a day.

Finally, one more very important piece of advice is that if you notice signs of varicose veins on yourself, be sure to treat it immediately, as it will only cause more problems later.
